History

The Road goes ever on and on

Down from the door where it began.

Now far ahead the Road has gone,

And I must follow, if I can…

-JRR Tolkien, The Lord of the Rings

Phoenix and Tim can't remember when they first met. It might have been at a Princeton Triangle Club party, in passing on campus, or at their eating club Tower, sipping beer while on a "study break." [wink wink.] Tim admired Phoenix from afar in her performances and Phoenix famously commented on Tim's Facebook profile picture, "Tim, you look tan." [This gave him hope.]

Their friendship deepened and grew in the years post-college as their paths continued to cross: first, in a conversation about Judaism and Christianity on a rooftop in Brooklyn; next, at a Eucharistic Adoration Phoenix was helping to organize; and then, at Evensong at St. Thomas Fifth Avenue (we are leaving some things out here--namely, the influence of Archbishop Rowan Williams' theology). They made things official when their pilgrim feet led them both to Yale Divinity School, where Tim was studying to be an Episcopal priest and Phoenix was studying and staging the music and theater of the medieval church.

Theology, history, the arts and their faith in Christ brought them together and continue to guide them on their paths. They pray that their marriage can be a witness to the work of God in their lives, in the Church, and in the world. They are deeply grateful for family and friends who have supported them to this point, and they look forward to celebrating with all who can make it to the wedding in February 2022!
